Monta Energy

Features

What you can do with the Monta Energy Management System.

Site Management

  • Create and configure energy sites
  • Define site-wide timezone and country area settings (for price data)
  • Set default charge intents for all sessions that are started on this site
  • Filter sites by team membership for multi-tenant organizations
  • Add comments to sites for internal notes
  • Dashboard overview with stats cards showing key metrics across all sites
  • Searchable sites list with on-demand page loading for fast navigation across large fleets
  • Set the site's grid connection (230/400 V, 277/480 V, split-phase 120/240 V, or three-phase 120/208 V), which determines the voltages used to convert between power and current

Electrical Topology

  • Build hierarchical node structures to model your electrical setup
  • Define power and current limits for any node in the hierarchy
  • Attach EVSEs and meters to nodes
  • Visualize power flow through the site
  • Drag and drop nodes to reorganize your electrical network in both canvas and tree views
  • Unified topology combobox for quickly selecting nodes and EVSEs from a single searchable dropdown

Charge Point Control

  • Add and configure EVSEs (AC and DC) with streamlined workflow
  • Define power and current limits per charge point
  • Configure phase setups, including three-phase and its rotations, single-phase, and line-to-line pairs (L1-L2, L2-L3, L3-L1) for chargers wired without a neutral
  • Monitor real-time status
  • Visualize EVSE state transitions with interactive charts
  • View charge point images and names across all EVSE views for easy identification
  • Search vehicle intents with a searchable combobox and enriched table view
  • EVSE actions menu embedded inline in the EVSE column for easier access on narrow viewports
  • Sort the EVSE overview by charging status to bring actively charging points to the top, now the default order
  • Detailed active charge card showing how a charge's energy target is derived (intent, battery capacity, effective target, charged, remaining), live per-phase power readings, allocation and limits, a charge progress bar, and the charging schedule
  • Active power-limit schedule surfaced on charge point detail, with a timezone selector for the schedule chart
  • Live state of charge read directly from the active charge in both overview and detail cards
  • External limit: set a maximum charging power per charge point that energy management optimizes below (still respecting node and fuse limits), for a set duration or until cleared (per-site advanced setting)
  • Top-Up ChargeNow: enable per site to hand unused node power headroom to Charge Now charges, boosting them up to each charger's hardware limit while still respecting node and fuse limits (per-site advanced setting)

Smart Charging

  • Price-optimized charging based on spot prices
  • Target-based charging (SoC or kWh)
  • Departure time scheduling
  • Automatic re-optimization as conditions change

Charge Intents

  • Site-level default intents
  • RFID-specific intents
  • Vehicle ID-specific intents
  • Scheduled overrides (by day and time)
  • Weekly schedule visualization showing base intent and override periods with drag-to-create support
  • Support for both Charge Now and Price Optimize types
  • Target-based charging (SoC or kWh targets)
  • Priority levels on charge intent templates to control charging order
  • Warning when charge target is not reachable by departure time
  • Charge key autocomplete for RFID intents — searchable combobox backed by your charge keys replaces manual text input

Load Management

  • Node-level current limits (Fuse protection)
  • Node-level power limits
  • Amp buffer configuration for individual nodes to manage power distribution headroom
  • Time-based power limit schedules for nodes and charge points
  • Per-EVSE load management control — disable load management so an EVSE operates in meter-only mode
  • External meter integration (Monta MQTT, ABB Modbus, Perific, and Viocon meters)
  • Monta MQTT meter setup with auto-generated UUID, inline connection guide, topic format, and JSON payload reference
  • MQTT connection guide card shown in Details view when meter is registered but not yet receiving data
  • Perific/Enegic digital-input node limit — limit a node to 0 W based on a digital input signal (DI 1 or DI 2, active HIGH or LOW), with the configured rule, latest input state, and a "Limited to 0 W" badge shown in the Meters table; the rule can be edited later via the "Edit Settings" action without removing the meter

Demand Charge

Demand charges are utility fees based on the single highest 15-minute interval of grid power use in a billing period — often the dominant line item on a US-style commercial bill. The demand-charge tab on a site shows what your charge is, what's driving it, and what you can do about it.

Concepts

  • Demand charge — utility fee priced per kW based on your peak interval inside a billing period (typically monthly). One bad 15 minutes can set the bill for the whole month.
  • Tariff band — most utilities split the day into rate tiers (HIGH_LOAD, SHOULDER, OFF_PEAK). Each band has its own $/kW rate and its own time windows.
  • Ratchet — a minimum billed peak set to a fraction of your highest trailing peak. Even if this month's real peak is low, you still pay against (say) 80% of your worst month in the past year.
  • Knee — the inflection point on the cap-vs-savings curve where capping harder stops saving meaningfully. The recommended cap.

Sub-views

The demand-charge tab has four sub-views:

  • Cards — per-billing-period breakdown. Each card shows that period's peak interval (the single 15-min slot that set the charge) and runners-up.
  • Chart — every 15-min bucket of measured load over the window, colored by tariff band. Use it to spot recurring peak-hour spikes.
  • Simulator — sweeps a cap from your current peak down to zero, charts the bill against it, and recommends the knee. The worst-day chart below it shows the single interval the recommended cap would reshape.
  • Forecast — spreadsheet mode. Operator types a tariff + load profile and runs the engine. No site data required; works for cold prospects.

Forecast (spreadsheet mode)

  • Tariff editor — pick a starter template (US flat / US TOU / US-with-ratchet / DK Radius / blank) or build from scratch. Edit bands, time windows, ratchet config, billing period, currency, timezone.
  • Load editor — two input modes:
    • Pattern: avg/peak kW with a peak window.
    • Fleet (Session-mix): number of chargers, charger kW, sessions/day, kWh/session. Server derives the load curve.
  • Use this site's data — one-click pre-fill of the tariff template + load editor from the site's real measurements. Mode-aware: Pattern fills avg/peak kW from /timeline; Fleet fills charger count + nameplate + peak window from the site tree and timeline histogram.
  • Saved scenarios — name and save a (tariff + load) configuration. Pick it back up later from the dropdown. Stored in the browser.
  • Compare two — run the same load against two tariff configs side by side. Shows the bill delta with green/red coloring. Useful for "current vs proposed plan" conversations on US sales calls.

Apply

The simulator's recommended cap can be applied to the site's top node — writes powerLimitW = capKw × 1000. The same top node the analyzer measures, so the applied DLB ceiling matches the simulator's forecast input. Returns the applied + previous cap so the UI can confirm and offer an undo path.

Tariff coverage

  • DK Radius 2024 — built-in, applied automatically to Danish sites.
  • US — operator-typed via the Forecast view's tariff editor. The starter templates cover flat-demand, time-of-use, and ratchet-bearing shapes.

Monitoring

  • Real-time power, current, and voltage data
  • Historical charts and data export with zoom state preserved across live updates
  • Threshold lines on charts for fuse limits, active power schedules, and historical configuration changes
  • Live threshold values in legend — hover over any chart to see the active fuse limit, effective limit, power limit, or allocated power at the cursor position
  • Per-EVSE allocated power overlay — individual EVSE charts show the historical power allocation for that specific EVSE
  • Per-node and per-EVSE views
  • Active session tracking
  • EVSE state transition visualization for detailed charger behavior analysis
  • Charge session history with search, status filtering, pagination, and total price
  • Settings change log showing all configuration changes with the acting user (name and hub profile link), inline comments, and revert capability
  • Migration dashboard showing per-operator site migration progress with active/inactive breakdowns, progress bars, and tooltips
