Monta Energy Management Portal
The Monta Energy Management Portal is a unified interface for configuring, managing, and monitoring energy behavior across EV charging sites. It replaces Monta's legacy energy systems with a single, structured platform that supports load management, smart charging, and advanced charge intent logic.
Content
This documentation covers:
- Features - What you can do with the system
- Guide - Step-by-step configuration and management instructions
- Optimization - How smart charging, price optimization, and prioritization work
Who Is It For
The portal is designed for commercial fleet operators and advanced charging setups, enabling precise control of complex electrical topologies while ensuring reliable and cost-optimized charging.
What It Does
The Energy Management Portal brings together:
- Load and power constraint management
- Smart charging (price optimization)
- Fuse protection through hierarchical nodes
- Charge intent logic for sites, RFID tags, and vehicles
All configuration and monitoring is done from a single interface, ensuring consistent behavior across chargers and predictable charging outcomes.
Key Concepts
Energy Sites
A site represents a physical location with one or more charging stations. Each site contains:
- A hierarchical node structure
- One or more EVSEs (charge points)
- Optional external meters
- Default and specific charge intents
Nodes
Nodes represent electrical groupings (for example, main fuses, sub-distribution boards, or logical groups of chargers). They define how power is constrained and distributed across the site.
Nodes form a tree structure:
Top Node (Root) ─── 63A Main Fuse
├── Sub-distribution A ─── 32A
│ ├── EVSE 1
│ └── EVSE 2
└── Sub-distribution B ─── 32A
└── EVSE 3
EVSEs
EVSEs (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) are the physical charge points. Each EVSE belongs to exactly one node and inherits the power constraints of its parent nodes.
Charge Intents
Charge intents define how charging should happen. They determine whether charging starts immediately or is optimized based on price, time, and energy targets.
When a session starts, the system selects an intent in this order (first match wins):
- App intent - Checked first. If the session was started from the Monta app with charging preferences, those are used.
- RFID intent - If the RFID tag matches a configured intent, it is used.
- Vehicle ID intent - If the vehicle's ID matches a configured intent, it is used.
- EVSE intent - If the EVSE has a configured intent, it is used.
- Site default intent - Used when no higher-priority intent matches.
External Meters
Meters provide real-time power measurements for nodes, enabling accurate load balancing and fuse protection. Supported meter types include Monta MQTT, ABB, Perific, and Viocon.
